Canton Global Academy CGA

Dear parents,

My thanks to the many of you who attended the Parent:Teacher interviews on Monday to review your child’s report and to set goals for the rest of the year. I am sure these meetings were both informative and productive.

This week has seen the start of the Mother Tongue Arabic programme for students. We have two classes arranged by ability and these will now be on-going on Monday and Wednesdays for the remainder of the school year. We have also started our rehearsals for our Chinese Year of The Dog celebrations and the Primary Year students are getting excited about taking part in a very topical play, The Strange Case of Doctor Dog, based on a Chinese fairy story. Equally, Nursery and Reception have a special Kung-Fu dance performance which will open the stage show. Please bring all your relatives and friends to what will be an exciting and entertaining morning’s school community event.

Next week we have our second Parent Workshop and we will be introducing the use of iPads for classwork and homework and informing you about the Education City software which we will be using. This is linked directly to the National Curriculum as you will see and it will also give you information in terms of Curriculum Maps i.e. what your child(ren) will be studying in class during this term. I really hope as many of you as possible will attend this workshop as it will enable you to understand the use of technology in the classroom. Some examination boards nowadays have on-line examinations and it is likely that your child(ren) may well have to take such examinations when they are 16 or older so it is important they get used to this technology. We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Thursday.

Finally, part of our celebrations on 03 February involve raising money for The Friends of CGA to use for the school in the future. To this end we have a Grand Raffle with some great prizes such as an iPad, a weekend at a luxury hotel and many minor prizes of wines, chocolates, vouchers etc. Tickets priced RMB20 each (or 6 for RMB100) are on sale from the Marketing Department in the school now and will also be on sale on the day of the event. Please feel free to buy your raffle tickets now and encourage your relatives and friends to buy their tickets at the event.

From now on I will add to the newsletter any important notices at the end of the letter. These will mainly be reminders about school issues or in relation to our calendar and arrangements. Thank you all for your on-going support of the school. Yours sincerely

Kind regards

Hadyn Adams

2. The Chinese New Year Holiday is approaching. We know some of you will be leaving early i.e. before our school holiday officially begins on Saturday 10 February. If you are doing so please will you inform the school office immediately as we must know students who will not be here so that we do not use them for the school performances on 03 February. Thank you for your help with this issue.
