Canton Global Academy CGA

Dear parents,

Welcome back and a special welcome to our new students and to our new teacher, Mr Bill Payne. Because we have a new teacher we have had to make some adjustments to our classes and the arrangements are currently :-

Nursery and Reception : Ms Zakiya Williams

Years 1 & 2 : Mr Bill Payne

Years 3 & 4 : Mr Jonathan lake

Years 5 & 6 : Mr Derek Anderson

Mandarin teachers (who also assist the classroom teachers) Ms Kable, Ms Ophelia, Ms Gloria We are still interviewing prospective staff in order to try to separate out the classes even more and Ms Daisy McGee will be joining us later in March to take Year 4. Before then, we may have some other changes which we can inform you about as we are also currently advertising in the Times Educational Supplement for teachers to join us.

In addition to the minor improvements in teaching arrangements we have made some major improvements around the school with regard to classrooms and resources. Floor 2 has now got three operational classrooms for Upper Primary [Key Stage 2], the Library has new furniture and fittings and books, we have had a delivery of musical instruments and the students should now be using the new exercise books. More importantly we have received 20 iPads for classroom use and we have the software for Education City which has lessons and activities directly related to the National Curriculum and which will be being used in the classrooms. Parts of this software will be accessible to students at home since they will all be given User-names and Passwords to log in on their home computers or iPads. Information about this will follow in due course. There are still improvements to be made and I can assure you these have been flagged up and are being worked upon.

Next week will see the start of Arabic Lessons for students who have opted for this course and we will be using the activities times on Tuesdays and Thursdays initially to practice for our Chinese New Year production, The Strange Tale of Doctor Dog. The Activities programme will then start after the Chinese New Year holiday. Monday 15 January will also see our first Parent :Teacher meetings which will give you a chance to discuss the reports which were sent home in December. I hope you will take this opportunity not only to discuss the report but to agree with the teachers goals for your child(ren) for the rest of the school year.

As usual, a calendar is put at the end of this newsletter. I would like to emphasize in this newsletter our Chinese New Year Celebrations which are being held on Saturday 03 February from 10.00a.m. to 1.00p.m. This will be an exciting event celebrating many aspects of Chinese Culture including the Lion Dance and firecrackers, Chinese cuisine and presentations related to Chinese myths and legends. Everyone at school will be decked out in Chinese costumes and there will be a Grand Raffle with a main prize of an Apple iPad ! We really hope you and your relatives and friends will join us on what will be a spectacular day’s entertainment.

Remember, CGA is an ‘open’ school and you are welcome to contact us about any school issues at any time.

Kind regards

Hadyn Adams
